Close Encounters at Tshukudu

Close Encounters at Tshuduku

While Andrew has had his nose to the grind stone at the mill, I have been lucky enough to go touring around with my wonderful English friends Lynette and Suzanne.
Our last adventure was to Tshukudu, a game reserve close to Hoedspruit. This reserve  is a little different to others I have been to.
Tshukudu has been owned by the Sussens family since 1980.When they bought the property it was a cattle station. Over time they have converted it into a fantastic game reserve. Members of the family who  have grown up there run  the property . Over the years they have looked after various orphaned and unwanted animals. These animals have become much loved members of Tshukudu, some now living in their 'old age care facility' because if left in the wild they would no longer be able to fend for themselves, others enchanting the visitors with their presence.
As well as the 'friendly' animals there are plenty of wild animals who are free to come and go and still the Sussens  seem to know a great deal about all the animals on the property.
The game drives are wonderfully exciting as Chris and Jess negotiate rough terrain to get you as close to the animals as possible.
We enjoyed our time so much I am planning to take Andrew back on his first free weekend in 5 weeks.

We have got a good zoom on our camera but... we got close!!

How close do you want to get to a Rhino!

One last cuddle. I found it hard to say goodbye to Mthembe.

Go Cell Shut

Go Cell Shut February 28th - April 9th

This post will be for the more technically minded. That is not me so I apologize in advance if I make any glaring mistakes.

The Shut is in it's 4th week. It was meant to be the culmination of the whole Go Cell project but for one reason or another the Shut has been slightly modified and now only involves getting Fibre Line Two up and running. Fibre Line Three will be commissioned latter.

Everyone has been working flat out, mostly 12 hour days or longer, 7 days a week. As you can imagine people are getting very tired and looking forward to this part being completed.

The pulp dryer, one of Andrews jobs,  is a large part of this shut. So those of you interested in pulp dryers read on.

This is a good press release issued by the mill to tell everyone about the dryer move. Other photos follow.

The new dryer on the swing trailers waiting to be moved into its new home.

Swing trailers in place under the dryer.

Looking from the building that housed the old dryer. The new dryer is waiting to be installed.
I am pleased to say the dryer is now happily installed in its new home. One less thing to worry about but there still seems to be plenty more to occupy Andrew's time.
